You said that you already tested different drivers versions, we recommend to install the drivers provided by the manufacturer of the computer, in this case HP, since that driver was customized by them to work with your specific problem. As you mentioned it is difficult to play DirectX9 games on modern machines because of the same reason, the modern machine and operating systems are based on newer versions of DirectX, like DirectX11 or DirectX12 and when you use a game that works with DirectX9 then some performance/compatibility problems might be expected as per the game/software manufacturers. My only hope is that intel will patch this for future versions of their drivers. I suspect intel cards also lack decent support for directx9. AMD's recent adrenaline drivers totally lack dx9 support).

It's becoming more and more difficult to play DirectX9 games on modern machines (e.g. Sometimes, the games won't even launch, and when they do, there's usually graphical glitches all over. I know older games are susceptible to this kind of thing. I've update my graphics drivers for both the integrated and nvidia cards. I've tried the steps at and tried to run it with my integrated graphics instead of my geforce 820M. Try the game after that and see if it works. Open that file, and find the resolution settings, and change them to the desired 1680 x 1050. I've tried to run it in compatibility mode for all versions of windows. There should be a Battle for Middle-earth 2 folder in there.

Windows will notify you if a solution is available. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. I then get a message that does show on my screen which says 'The Battle for Middle-earth II has stopped working. Bought this game off ebay and when I try to play the first splash screen comes up then my screen goes black like it should when a game is loading but then I get 2 error boxes saying 'Exception in exception handler' but those 2 error messages will not show on my screen, I have to mouse over them in my taskbar to see them.
